Newsweek spoke with Plantation veterinarian Dr. Jennifer Frione about why she believes chihuahuas have become one of the most popular dog breeds.

“This breed tends to live long, happy lives with an average life expectancy of 12 to 15 years. They are generally very loving and friendly. However, they tend to have a ‘big dog’ mentality in certain situations,” Dr. Frione said.
