Dental Disease

ADMIN

Did you know that by the time your baby is 3 years old it is very common for them to develop periodontal disease? Keeping up with your pet’s dental cleanings both at home and with our veterinarians will help your fur-baby live the healthy, happy life they deserve.

Being proactive and scheduling their preventative yearly nose-to-tail examination will not only be helpful to your pet but also help you save money in the long run. Our medical team can identify early signs of dental disease and start treatment immediately to slow the disease process. Preventative care will save you money by heading off problems before they become major costly issues.

Before and After Dental Cleaning

Signs of Pet  Dental  Health Problems

  • Bad odor coming from your pet’s mouth
  • Dropping food while eating
  • Crying out and whining while eating
  • Bleeding from the mouth
  • Abnormal drooling
  • Reduced appetite
  • Teeth covered in tartar
  • Swelling in areas around the mouth

What can you do at home to prevent  dental  disease?

The first and more important step is home  dental  care. Brushing your pet’s teeth is just as important as brushing your teeth! Can you imagine if humans only brushed once a week? Gross! Remember to brush their teeth frequently. The more the better!

What can we do to help?

First, we can schedule your pet with one of our skilled veterinarian’s and preform a nose-to-tail examination, a mouth examination, and a comprehensive blood profile. We take the necessary precautions to make sure that every patient has a thorough exam and comprehensive blood profile. Anesthesia is needed to perform a thorough  dental  examination on your cat or dog and  dental  radiographs (x-rays).  Dental  radiographs will help us determine the severity of the disease. After the  dental  cleaning, your pet will have a clean slate to start from. It is important to brush your pet’s teeth when the veterinarian gives you the indication that it is safe to brush.

If you need help brushing, call us ! We can walk you through the few short steps to keep your pet’s breath smell and look great. If brushing is not an option we have several other products that are scientifically formulated to control plaque and tartar, and freshen breath. Lakeside Animal Hospital carries  dental  wipes and spray’s with technology that helps control build-up. Water additives are also helpful in the control of tartar and plaque build-up by using natural multi-complex enzymatic technology to support normal periodontal health.

Early intervention is key when it comes to Periodontal Disease. The sooner you can have your pet examined the better. Contact us at Lakeside Animal Hospital for an appointment today.
